Alor Makes National History: Alor’s Immigration Hub Officially Inaugurated Ahead of Simultaneous Launch of 255 Units.
Kalabahi – Alor, klikinfopol.com. 28 October 2026 – The Regency of Alor has marked a new milestone in national immigration services. The Alor Immigration Service Hub was officially inaugurated by Deputy Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Johni Asadoma, at Jalan Singosari, Kalabahi, on Wednesday (28/10/2026). Notably, this facility is the first service unit to be launched, preceding the national inauguration of 255 Immigration Hubs across Indonesia, which will be broadcast virtually from Batam.
“Alor is the first to go ahead of the national inauguration. Why Alor? Because the sun rises from the East,” said Saroha Manullang, Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for East Nusa Tenggara, earning warm applause from hundreds of attendees.
The inauguration ceremony began with a ribbon‑cutting led by Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma, followed by a direct inspection tour of the service rooms inside the Alor Immigration Hub. The event was attended by Deputy Regent of Alor Rocky Winaryo, Regional Secretary of Alor Regency Melkisedek Bely, members of Alor’s Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, heads of regional work units, vertical government agencies, as well as leaders of state‑owned and regional‑owned enterprises.
For the people of East Nusa Tenggara, a province made up of thousands of islands, access to public services has long been hampered by inter‑island distances, limited transportation options and high travel costs. The launch of the Alor Immigration Hub serves as a concrete solution to overcome these barriers.
“As an archipelagic province, East Nusa Tenggara faces no small geographical challenges. For this reason, the Alor Immigration Hub is a strategic step to cut travel distances, save time and costs, and deliver services that are more accessible, easier to reach and responsive to community needs,” Deputy Governor Johni explained.
This is not the only Immigration Hub being developed in East Nusa Tenggara. Three additional hubs will soon open in East Flores, Ngada and East Sumba to serve communities across other island regions.
Alor Regency holds a strategic position near the Ombai Strait, making it a key gateway and border‑monitoring point for the country. Deputy Governor Johni emphasised that streamlined travel‑document services must run alongside professional oversight of population movement and protection for residents against the threat of human trafficking.
“We want people to enjoy easier access to immigration‑document services, while also being protected from various risks including human trafficking,” he stressed.
To extend outreach and education down to the grassroots level, the immigration authority has also prepared the PIMPASA programme, short for Village‑Based Immigration Liaison Officers. The programme assigns immigration staff as direct points of contact for village residents, guiding them on proper overseas‑travel procedures and warning them about the dangers of human trafficking — an issue requiring close attention given East Nusa Tenggara’s long‑standing tradition of labour migration.
Beyond immigration services, Deputy Governor Johni also urged local residents and the regional government to unlock Alor’s tourism potential as a major driver of regional‑revenue growth. Its rich marine biodiversity, diverse cultural heritage and welcoming local community form strong assets to attract both domestic and international tourists.
He called on all tourism‑sector operators to set fair prices for souvenirs and services honestly, and to preserve the natural environment. “Our community’s warmth is our greatest strength. When tourists visit, they should feel welcome and respected,” he said.
All of these efforts align with the tenth priority under East Nusa Tenggara’s Dasa Cita development agenda, which calls for regional‑building collaboration between the provincial government, regency administrations, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, the business sector and local communities. The Alor Immigration Hub is also expected to draw new investment, positioning Alor as a region open to international mobility.
“The presence of this immigration facility is far more than a ceremonial event; it signals that Alor Regency is an internationally‑connected region. We hope this will also attract investors to establish operations in Alor,” Saroha Manullang concluded.(*)
