Kupang, klikinfopol.com. 1 November 2026 – Julie Sutrisno Laiskodat has officially been sworn in as the Provincial Chair of the Indonesian Shorinji Kempo Brotherhood for East Nusa Tenggara for the 2026‑2030 term at an inauguration ceremony held at the Flobamorata Sports Hall in Kupang. The inauguration was presided over by PERKEMI Central Board Chair Prof. Dr. Agus Stiadji, and attended by East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, representatives of Bank Indonesia, the Regent of Kupang, and PERKEMI board members from across East Nusa Tenggara.

The new leadership lineup includes a complete board and an Honorary Council composed of prominent regional figures. In her address, Julie reaffirmed her commitment to elevating Shorinji Kempo achievements through athlete development, organisational strengthening, and character‑building programmes for young people. She emphasised that Shorinji Kempo is far more than a martial‑art sport, serving as a platform to build discipline and develop high‑quality human resources.

With approximately 23,000 kenshi spread across all regencies and cities, East Nusa Tenggara ranks among Indonesia’s national Shorinji Kempo powerhouses. This term’s leadership has also established a new economic and welfare commission to support organisational operations and secure athletes’ well‑being after their competitive careers end.

Julie is preparing East Nusa Tenggara’s athletes for the 2027 Shorinji Kempo World Taikai in Nagoya, Japan, while targeting gold‑medal success at the 22nd National Sports Week co‑hosted with West Nusa Tenggara in 2028. Governor Melkiades Laka Lena praised PERKEMI’s contribution to East Nusa Tenggara’s haul of 36 medals at the 2024 National Sports Week, expressing hope that Shorinji Kempo will become one of the province’s flagship sports to deliver gold medals as the 2028 host.

“I am confident that under Kakak Julie Laiskodat’s leadership, East Nusa Tenggara’s Kempo programme will soar even higher, raising the profile of East Nusa Tenggara and Indonesia on the international stage,” the Governor stated.

PERKEMI Central Board Chair Prof. Agus Stiadji highlighted the outstanding performance of East Nusa Tenggara’s athletes, who claimed three out of Indonesia’s four gold medals at the 2023 International Taikai. He urged the new leadership to expand athlete training, improve access to qualified coaches and referees, and consolidate the organisation down to the regency level.

The inauguration was held alongside celebrations for PERKEMI East Nusa Tenggara’s 48th anniversary and an award ceremony honouring athletes who excelled at the championship in Badung, Bali. The new leadership is expected to enhance athlete development, nurture youth character, and establish Shorinji Kempo as a core competitive sport for East Nusa Tenggara at national and international competitions.(*)
